We no longer kill Native Americans.
We no longer enslave black people.
We no longer persecute people because of their religion.
We no longer burn to death people deemed to be witches.
We no longer imprison people for stating opinions contrary to those in power.
We no longer force children to work long hours in dangerous factories.
We no longer inflict painful or deadly "trial by ordeal" on accused people to determine guilt or innocence.
We no longer torture prisoners on the rack.
We no longer cheer as people are torn to pieces in coliseums.
As a matter of fact we no longer tolerate violence and cruelty against any group of people with one exception: preborn human beings. It is the only group or class of people for whom basic human rights are still being systematically denied. Why is it that this one group has been left behind while all other groups' rights have been advanced?
"In the top drawer of my desk, I keep another picture of Eli. The picture was taken on September 7, 1993, 24 weeks before he was born. The sonogram image is murky, but it reveals clearly enough a small head tilted back slightly, and an arm raised up and bent, with the hand pointing back toward the face ant the thumb extended out toward the mouth. There is no doubt in my mind that this picture, too, shows the same little boy at a very early stage in his physical development." -David Boonin, pro-abortion author (in A Defense of Abortion)
